Free and open source software has come a long way since its start decades ago. Today it’s the default choice for just about every software development project and tech giants like Amazon, Apple, Google, and even Microsoft are using, contributing to, and releasing free and open source software.
With its popularity for infrastructure and bootstrapping development, it’s tempting to say that free and open source software has won, but it’s premature to make that call. While it may have won software development hearts and minds, there are still billions of others who can benefit more directly from free and open source software and its philosophies.
What steps can we take to help share and improve FOSS? How can we make FOSS go even farther? There are many options, but in this talk I’ll share four key areas where each of us can make a difference.
