On Sept. 12, William Willis covered the U.S. barring tech companies from building plants in China for the next 10 years, the Data Protection Commission fining Instagram 400 million dollars for mishandling of children’s data and Apple CEO Tim Cook stating that Apple has no plans to adopt Rich Communication Services. He also talked about Uber Eats signing a 10-year deal with the autonomous driving startup Nuro and Mercedes-Benz and Rivian partnering up to manufacture electric vans. Finally, he previewed articles from Digital CxO, Security Boulevard and Container Journal, which covered how to get human-centric ethics and AI right, a survey suggesting mixed progress on developing ransomware defense and how Google’s file store enterprise for accessing NFS-backed storage is now accessible by Google Kubernetes Engine.

Hi again, everyone here the headlines for September 12th. First up the US is Bard tech companies that receive federal funding from building advanced technology facilities in China for the next 10 years. This comes as more business groups have pushed for government support to reduce Reliance on China.
The goal is to set up restrictions. So recipients of chips funds for semiconductors cannot use the money to invest in China. The US produces only 10% of the global Supply assembly conductors down from around 40% in the early 90s.
With this new restriction though the US hopes to build back up its own semiconductor industry. Next Ireland's data privacy regulator has decided to find Instagram 400 million dollars after investigating its handling of children's data. The investigation which started back in 2020 found child users from 13 to 17 were allowed to operate business accounts, which facilitated the publications of their phone numbers as well as email addresses.
The data protection commission regulates these Tech Giants and is open several investigations into meta already with being this being the latest last year. They find WhatsApp 225 million dollars for failure to conform with EU data rules. Metal has stated that Instagram plans to appeal against the fine.
So we'll see what happens there. next Apple CEO, Tim Cook has stated as no plans to adopt Rich communication services or RCs. RCS is a major improvement over SMS messaging that allows you to send high quality videos and photos as well as provide features such as typing indicators and delivery and read receipts on messages.
Google reports now over 500 million people use RCS messaging it has been pressuring Apple to adopt our CS so Androids can better send multimedia files. instead of allowing only SMS between non-apple products However, Tim Cook recently stated at the code 2022 conference that Apple customers weren't demanding for the support and there are no plans to adopt RCs at any time in the future. In other news Uber Eats assigned a 10-year deal with neuro by autonomous driving startup for autonomous food delivery starting in the fall.
They plan to deploy the autonomous delivery vehicles in California in Texas. Neither company has stated the number of vehicles or customers that will participate in these early tests, though. This deal has been in the works for nearly four years now as Uber originally approached neuro to make deliveries in Houston back in 2019.
Deal highlights Uber's push into the move towards autonomous delivery as Uber is also working with server Robotics and motional to test deliveries. Next Mercedes-Benz in rivian have formed a new joint venture to build commercial electric fans. They plan on creating two models using both Mercedes-Benz and rivian's electric van platforms.
The company stated that they plan on investing in a plant with the target set on using existing Mercedes-Benz site in Central or Eastern Europe. This will be rivian's first manufacturing plant outside of the US with the ultimate goal of spreading electric vehicles to new areas in New Markets. Rivian currently has a contract to build 100,000 electric vans for Amazon, which they expect to be fully on the road by 2030.

Over 400 technology financial and Security leaders took a survey by hycu a provider of data protection. Some of them findings include that 54% felt that they were mostly prepared for a ransomware attack. But only 45% stated that they're recovery from a ransomware attack would be easy.
