Digital Transformation is AI Transformation | Shimmy Says Ep. 27

You know, I, I'm going to throw back to some Hillary Clinton in the re People's Republic of China years and years ago, I think it was 96 or something, when she said, women's rights are human rights.

And, and that became a bit of a, a cliche, well, in my best, Hillary Clinton, I'm not a good Hillary Clinton impersonator. I'm here to tell you today that digital transformation is AI transformation. It's been replaced.

It's been disrupted. You know, I always felt that digital transformation was one of the most overused, misunderstood words in technology. What exactly did we mean about digital transformation?

Well, when I first heard it, I, and I don't know, maybe I'm a child of my generation. Well, if we're doing a digital transformation, we must be transforming from an analog world to a digital world. And to a certain extent, some digital transformations were like that.

It was about moving from a brick and mortar store to a online e-commerce situation during COVID. This became a must have, right? Because if we didn't have a, a way of reaching people who were stuck in their homes and getting the goods they ordered, 'cause some of it was digital that they could download and that's easy.

But getting physical goods to them required us integrating a digital selling delivery, logistics, operational method into our analog world. And, and you know what? Necessity's, the mother of invention, so many industries, so many companies got with it quick.

And we saw the biggest move to digital away from brick and mortar, probably ever during COVID. But there was other kinds, there's other kinds of digital transformation. You may already be digital for some people, digital transformation was moving from a private data center to a cloud public cloud.

For others, it was moving from a mainframe to modern, uh, modern architecture, cloud architecture, or a hybrid architecture, or a multi-cloud architecture. It was the cloud native digital transformation became anything where you were transforming your organizational business model, processes, practices into something more modern. And we, we slapped the DT LA table on that label, on that digital transformation.

Now, what we've seen in the last two and a half years though, is a move to AI transformation. And I think this level, this AI transformation is gonna totally replace digital transformation because what we're doing here is everything is being transformed and disrupted by ai. So it's not enough just to move your brick and mortar store to some app or your financial, your bank from a brick and mortar branch to an app.

Now we're enabling them with AI so that the AI can in essence, do it for you. We, I saw just this week, probably three or four different pitches come my way of agentic AI handling your finances. Don't worry about balancing your checkbook, paying your bills, or doing any, or managing your investments.

The agents will take care of it personally, I don't know if I'm ready to trust an agent to handle my finances by un un unhinged or un managed by me. But this is the kind of AI transformation that we're seeing. We're seeing it in writing code for applications.

We're seeing it in migrations to public cloud, back from public cloud to private cloud to bare metal to the edge, to endpoints. AI is handling all of this for us. Um, and you know, this is the year of ag agentic ai.

I don't even think we've seen the full extent of, you know, a lot of these agents are just being rolled out. But whether you are using it for travel to arrange your travel, to do your schedule, to respond to your email, virtually every task we think of AI is transforming the way we're doing it. So I sit here today and tell you that digital transformation is AI transformation.

You, if you are transforming things you are doing, your organization's doing without building AI into that process, you're just wasting your time. 'cause you're gonna have to redo it real soon. So if you're thinking about a transformation project, think along the lines of AI transformation.
