Ryan Harris, one of Tech Field Day’s newest delegates and a participant in Networking Field Day 38, shares insights from his work with client networks, focusing on security and infrastructure. He discusses what he learned about AI and data center networking during a recent presentation, and how those concepts connect to the needs of his customers. Ryan also reflects on how networking may seem simple on the surface, but involves complex systems and behind-the-scenes work that keep everything running smoothly.

My name is Ryan Harris. I'm a network engineer with, uh, blue Ally, and so I work on client networks, uh, doing security network stuff, all that. Uh, probably the conversations that we've had, um, you know, just having a, a drink and talking to somebody about geeky stuff that, uh, that I don't get to normally have on a day-to-day basis.
So, uh, one thing I've probably learned the most was, uh, about AI data center networking. Um, our presentation from a hedgehog, uh, is a, a peek into a part of the networking that I don't normally get to see. Um, a lot of the, the speeds of the network and, uh, the capabilities and requirements are outside of my day-to-day.
So that was really interesting. Um, also hearing how it kind of could apply to some of the customers that I speak to. So, uh, a thing that, uh, I think people should know about networking is, um, that, you know, it connects all these things and in a lot of cases it's very easy and, uh, we make it look very easy.
But under the hood it's, it's incredibly difficult and, uh, there's a lot of minutiae that most people never see and take for granted that, uh, makes kind of the world work. So.
