DevOps World Preview and CloudBees’ New Offerings – Sacha Labourey, CloudBees

This is Textron tv. Hey everyone, welcome back here to techron tv. I'm happy to be joined in this segment by, you know, he's a, he's not old, but he's a longtime friend of mine from the, from the, uh, DevOps world, co-founder, chief strategy officer at Cloud vs.

My friend Sasha LaRay. Uh, Sasha, first of all, welcome back to Tech Drug tv. You look well, I hope all's well with you.

Thank you for having, having me, Alan, very happy to, to be here. Absolutely. Sasha, you know, COVID sort of in the rear view mirror.

We hope though there's been a little numbers have creeped up a little bit, but, you know, people aren't dying the way they were. Um, and, and we're back. We're back to in-person events.

Things are getting back to some sort of normal and part of that in the DevOps spaces, the return of DevOps world. And, uh, we, we had, uh, actually I was lucky to have shown a med on a couple weeks ago, and we talked about the upcoming DevOps world plans, which instead of having sort of one big show in San Francisco or Vegas or what have you, we're gonna have sort of a DevOps world road show of, in New York, Chicago, Silicon Valley, I believe London, and then Singapore as well. That's right, yes.

Um, A lot of exciting stuff going on. Are you, you know, I, I I imagine you're excited by it. Tell us a little bit about what you are thinking and seeing.

Yeah, I'm excited. You know, it's, it, you, you know that business better than I do, right? How to do events and, uh, uh, you know that by now, you, you can only get it wrong, right?

So, Uhhuh, uh, if you had, uh, an on-site event, uh, in, in 2020 wasn't good news. If you had, uh, uh, enough site in 2021, nobody wanted to come. Uh, then you do online.

Online, get bored. And we had this very, uh, interesting approach last year. We, we organized something in Florida is a in the midst of, of a hurricane.

Yeah. Um, so that went well. Uhhuh.

Yes, I remember. Yeah. So, so, so, so this time the idea was to try with something different, right?

Because I think people like the, the, the personal touch, like to meet with other people, get to talk about technology and, and the future and, and so on. But at the same time, I see people less inclined maybe to, to cross ocean or to, to go east to west, west to east, just for two days for a conference and so on. So I think this is a, this is a great way to get the sense of what made DevOps world, uh, and in the past, Jenkins were successful practitioner to meet, to, to speak about the, the state of affair, also the cool things coming up, uh, and also challenges they're facing and how they're solving it.

So we decided to do those smaller events, but five of them in different locations, so people get to attend without traveling too much. Uh, so it, hopefully it's gonna be the best of both world, but we'll only know that, uh, next year, I guess. Well, I think it will be.

There's some, and again, I, I realize you can't let, kinda let the cat outta the bag, and I don't want to get you in trouble. But there's some interesting, uh, announcements that are gonna be made at DevOps world, uh, some new functionality perhaps, uh, around both Jenkins and Cloud BS enterprise and, and, you know, maybe even new products coming out without getting in trouble. Can you give us a hint?

You, you don't wanna be, uh, you don't wanna get in trouble, but I don't wanna get in trouble either, right? Uh, but I'll give you a few hints. Uh, it's true.

On, on the Jenkins side of the house, Jenkins is this amazing piece of critical infrastructure, right? And, uh, we, we, we, we, we, we were talking about that last time, right? How Jenkins gets to this position of critical infrastructure, been around for 18 years.

In those 18 years, it has, it has spread absolutely everywhere from under developer's desk to highly sensitive production environments, uh, uh, from Kubernetes to embedded software. It's everywhere. And, um, and so you could argue that, well, cloud B has been at it for 13 years.

What else can, can there be? And there, there are always behaviors that change in CI/CD, always new things people wanna see solve. And, and, and those requests come in, in waves.

So that's what we do most of the time. We look at what those organization need at any point in time. However, there are some functionalities, some things that people have always wanted, right?

It's, it's to make sure that how do you take care of your critical infrastructure? How do you make sure it's always on, it doesn't go down and so on. Those requests have always been around.

And so, uh, at, uh, at DevOps World this year, we're gonna make some amazing announcements on that front. Amazing demo. Uh, so if people wanna see it, wanna touch it, wanna try it, it's an amazing place to come because we're gonna have some very beefy new features coming up for the, for, for the Jenkins community, the Cloud Bees customers, but, you know, part of the Jenkins community.

Absolutely. So that's absolutely Okay. That's one.

Uh, so that's the Jenkins side of the house. And, uh, uh, as you know, we, we, when we started CloudBees in 2010, we were actually a hundred percent a cloud company, right? We were doing CI c, that's the name repository, deployment, everything was in the cloud.

And, uh, we reoriented towards doing, you know, only quote unquote Jenkins around 2013 and 14. So that has been our d n a for, for now, close to a decade, being the software company. Uh, we, we do have some SaaS software, but for the most part, we've been a, a software company in the last decade.

And, uh, this is about to evolve. We're, uh, we're, uh, going back to our roots of who we were in, in 2010. And, uh, it doesn't mean that one is, is is getting rid of the other, right?

It's, it's gonna be cumulative. We're really entering back into, into a very cloud slash SaaS type of, of approach. So we're gonna have a bunch of news coming up on that front as well.

I'm super excited by that. Uh, there is an amazing amount of work, amazing amount of energy that, uh, we've spent in the more than a year on, on this. And, uh, and so, uh, DevOps will be, will be the culmination of those efforts.

So that will be with lots of pride, will, uh, show, uh, our baby to the world. Fantastic. Hey, just for our friends out there looking, I think the first DevOps world in New York, I, I wanna say it's around September 13th or 14th, something like that.

Um, yeah, I think the very first event we did, wasn't it in, uh, Santa Clara? Actually No, no. I'm saying for this year's DevOps world.

Oh, Yeah, yeah. For this year is In new, around September 13th, 14th. That's, it was in Santa Clara.

I was there, yeah. Um, but this year's coming up, so it's about a month from now, so you could check that out there. I know, uh, we'll have some of our folks there covering it.

And we're actually talking with CloudBees. We might be streaming live video from the one in Silicon Valley, which i, I want to say is October. I forgot the date off top of my head.

October 18 and 19. Yep, that's correct. com, you can get all the information.

Speakers, Sasha. We're very excited to see what's happening, not just on Jenkins, but sort of this return to its roots. And it's gonna be, uh, I think it'll be a lot of fun.
